Bringing home a new pet can be difficult for everyone, especially if there is already a pet at home! Two silly dogs learn a valuable lesson about friendship in this charming, colorful story! Both the antics and the illustrations made me laugh! - Jennifer Reed
"Poodle and Doodle is a fun read-a-loud that celebrates the gift found in differences. Loved it!" - Caroline Pignat, author of Greener Grass, WINNER of the Governor General's Award 2009.

About Me!

I'm Angel, a purebreed poodle. I know the book is called Poodle AND Doodle, but this blog should be all about ME. I'm the true star in the family, you know. I go every few weeks to the groomer to get beautified, and I do my nails every morning. The other dogs don't even go to the groomer. Mama Donna adopted me after my first owner's cat tried to treat me like a mouse. After getting shook around a few times, I was ready to leave. At the time I only weighed about three pounds. I'm up to about twelve pounds now, so that makes me a lightweight in this house, but I'm still the boss. Just ask me.

My owner, Donna Shepherd, wrote the book Poodle & Doodle. It's about me (of course), but I have to admit, just as much about the 'new' dog, a labradoodle. In the book, she is a 'he' named Scruffy, but in real life, her name is Sadie. Just her head is almost as big as I am!

Poodle and Doodle is published by Guardian Angel Publishing. The publisher has a page for Poodle & Doodle. Click HERE. It's on sale on Barnes & Noble. Click HERE to order! To order directly from the publisher or get the eBook, click HERE.

Will You Pray for Me?

A prayer request from my Mama Donna:

I have grave news. I took Angel for an ultrasound and she has a tumor in her bladder. It is near the urinary tract which is why she strains to urinate. Because of its location, surgery is not an option. She is going to be on treatment for the rest of her life to try to reduce the size of the tumor. If/when the tumor shrinks, it will give her relief. They are slow-growing, so if the meds shrink it, it won't grow back swiftly. If it does grow too large, it would, of course, block her from urinating at all, which would be terrible. So please pray for my little sweetheart, Angel. She's lying in her little bed a foot from my feet now and is never very far from me. I can't imagine losing her. Thank you so much.

Amelie Loves Poodle & Doodle

Today Mama Donna got a note from 2 1/2 year old Amelie's mama that said how much Amelie loves her Poodle & Doodle book. Here's what she said:

"Amelie is currently obsessed with the Poodle & Doodle book. She cracks up at the dogs drinking out of the toilet page and likes to show it to Jack (her dog) and say, "Look Jack, follow me, pay attention - dogs don't drink from the potty!"

She also likes to wear a hat while she reads it because the girl in the book wears one at the tea party and she thinks that's funny, too."

Here's a picture of beautiful Amelie wearing her tea party hat.
Amelie, I'm so glad you like my book and Mama Donna is, too! You're right to teach Jack not to drink form the toilet. Yuck! I would never!

She also likes to recreate scenes in the book - like the one where the poodle gets under Scruffy to keep from getting wet when it rains.
Amelie has so much reading her book. That makes my tail wag with happiness!

Dancing Dog

This dog must have unbelievable strength in her back legs. I cannot see Sadie (or me!) even being able to do this. She sure looks like she's having fun! And I DO like her outfit.

Oodles of Summer Fun - Coloring Page

Look at that Scruffy! Always doing something mischievous!

Sparkles, the Fire Safety Dog

Momma Donna has a new friend who has an amazing dog. Although normally I wouldn't praise any other breed of dog but a doodle, Sparkles, the Fire Safety Dog has been credited with saving several lives! Her Momma Dayna is a firefighter and wrote a book about her dog, too. In the book, children learn of the adventures of Sparkles, the Fire Safety Dog and valuable fire safety tips enabling them and their families to keep fire safe. These tips include recognizing the firefighter as a helper and a friend, knowing the sound and purpose of a smoke alarm, learning how to crawl low under smoke, and understanding the importance of practicing a home fire drill using an escape map.

Ahd she even has a video that tells all about her!

To read more about Sparkles, visit Momma Dayna's blog at http://www.childrensbookauthordaynahilton.blogspot.com/ There you'll find a word search puzzle, coloring pages, more videos, and a hidden picture puzzle, too! Have fun!

Interview with Sadie

Can you believe it? Someone interviewed Sadie before me. Everyone knows I'm the bigger star in Poodle and Doodle. But - good for Sadie. She gets the spotlight today on Mayra Calvani's blog, Pets and Their Authors. Check it out by clicking HERE!

Mayra wrote a book about a dog, too, called Crash.

So, Mayra, when you will you be interviewing the real diva?

Progress

Mama Donna's...no wait, I should say MY illustrator has put an announcement on his blog about the book along with another sneak peek. Check it out!

Excerpt and Sneak Peek from Poodle & Doodle

Okay, normally I'm kinda cool about all this book stuff, but Mama Donna is excited to share another illustration from this book she wrote about Sadie and me. In the book, Sadie is a boy named Scruffy. Thankfully, she left me alone. I'm still a female poodle, and that's a good thing. Why mess with perfection?

He gobbles down his dinner.
He leaves an awful mess,
While I take small and proper bites
And I eat so much less.

First Peek at Poodle & Doodle

Jack Foster sent Donna one of the first illustrations for Poodle & Doodle. Here I am trying to have a proper tea with Leah and who crashes the party? Scruffy (aka Sadie in real life)!
